I love this time of year! The children come back from break with a fresh attitude. I find they are ready to learn and have really solidified all skills learned before break. That time away from school allows them to spend quality time with family and recharge their batteries!
Here are some great things you can do at home to help them speed ahead!
1. Practice sight words! I am sending a list of words that are on the word wall in class. The children should be able to read and write these words with ease!
2. Practice short vowels! You can do this anywhere...quiz your child in the grocery store, in the car, standing in line, or at the dinner table! Say a word and ask them to tell you the short vowel in the word. They have learned all five short vowels and should know them all with ease now. Work with word families like at, an, en, et, in, it, ot, op, ut, un.
3. Practice counting by 2's, 5's and 10's forward and backward. This is very important as we are getting into counting money and telling time.
These three things should be easy to do at home and they will help your child in class!
